About Mei
As someone who was born and raised in Tokyo and speaks both Japanese and English fluently, I bring an authentic understanding of both the language and culture. I’m passionate about making Japanese approachable and helping students feel comfortable using it in real-life situations. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to improve your conversational skills, I’ll create a supportive and judgment-free environment where you can learn at your own pace. If you're looking for someone you can text or email outside of a lesson for a quick answer or support, I'll be your person!

My lessons are relaxed, conversational, and tailored to each student’s goals. I focus on practical Japanese you can actually use in everyday life, rather than relying solely on textbook phrases.
A typical lesson includes conversation practice, vocabulary and expressions, and explanations of grammar or cultural nuances as they naturally come up. I also like using real-life situations—travel, making friends, ordering food, texting, or casual conversations—so students can build confidence using Japanese naturally. I practice multiple ways of phrasing and responding to situations because everyone chooses words differently and memorizing one situational phrase won't be too helpful in the real conversational world.
Lessons are open to beginners through advanced learners, whether you’re learning for travel, personal interest, conversation practice, or simply want to feel more comfortable speaking Japanese!
