About Derek
Recent Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduate from the University of Florida offering individualized tutoring for undergraduate and graduate-level nursing and medical students, with a primary focus on psychiatric and mental health-related material.
My clinical and academic experience spans child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry across the lifespan, allowing me to provide comprehensive support in psychiatric nursing coursework, psychopharmacology, case study analysis, clinical reasoning, and prescribing concepts.
I pride myself on maintaining a calm, approachable, and encouraging teaching style that prioritizes critical thinking and long-term comprehension rather than simple memorization. I understand that psychiatric and medical material can feel overwhelming at times, and I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I am highly familiar with undergraduate and graduate testing formats, including NCLEX-style and ANCC PMHNP board-style questions. I strive to help students develop both academic confidence and a deeper understanding of psychiatric concepts, clinical reasoning, and psychopharmacology.
My experience spans child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry across the lifespan, and I provide support with psychiatric nursing coursework, psychopharmacology, case study analysis, prescribing concepts, and board-style question review.
Students also benefit from access to supplemental educational resources, including Mark K lecture outlines, NEI subscription materials, tutoring videos, lesson plans, case studies, prescribing algorithms, podcasts, and additional review content.
I maintain a calm, supportive, and approachable teaching style, with a strong passion for mental health education and a commitment to answering questions thoroughly while expanding understanding beyond superficial memorization.
I am prompt with communication and dedicated to helping students succeed academically and clinically.
