About Alan
As a First-Class Honors graduate in Biomedical Science with hands-on experience teaching both children and university students, I combine deep subject knowledge with a passion for making learning engaging and accessible.
My approach is simple: meet students where they are. I prioritize patience, clarity, and two-way dialogue, creating a supportive space where questions are encouraged. My background in research and public speaking means I can explain even the most intricate topics with precision—while my tutoring experience ensures I do so in a way that’s friendly, adaptable, and tailored to each student’s needs.
You’ll find me prepared, professional, and genuinely invested in your success. Let’s make learning not just effective, but enjoyable!

I believe effective tutoring starts with understanding the student’s unique learning style and needs, and tailoring my methods accordingly. Depending on the student's needs I employ methods such as experiments, storytelling, group discussions, analogies, diagrams, and real examples. I engage my students with questions and invite them to participate in a dialogue with their learning rather than just simply lecturing at them. I find that students learn best when they get to be involved in an actual discussion, as it gives them an opportunity to think more deeply about what they are learning.
My past experience includes running a weekly science workshop for children aged 4–11, delivering talks to university biology students, and delivering various research presentations and reports on complex topics for wider professional audiences.

I attended one of Alan's lectures at my university on his research regarding circadian rhythms, he was super engaging and managed to break down a complex topic in a way that was accessible to an audience of varying levels of understanding of biology. What impressed me the most was the lasting impression he left on the people that attended the lecture with many of us ending up staying to discuss his work for several hours after the lecture finished.I attended one of Alan's crash-course talks on circadian rhythms. He was so good at capturing the audience's attention and getting us involved in the discussion. We even ended up moving into the campus bar afterwards to continue the discussion because it was so fascinating.
