About Lauren

My name is Lauren Saavedra, and I am a consistent Dean's Lister pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a major in Medical Biology at Ateneo de Zamboanga University. I specialize in botany and microbiology, and I have achieved the rank of Top 1 in my class, my batch, the Natural Sciences Department, and the entire College of Science, Information Technology, and Engineering after garnering a perfect 4.0 GPA. Because I am actively immersed in the demanding world of higher education, my academic background ensures that the material I teach is accurate, current, and highly relevant to school curricula.

As a dedicated student leader in my field, I approach tutoring with a high level of professionalism, reliability, and structured guidance. I know exactly what it takes to excel at the highest level, and I translate my own proven study strategies into actionable, easy-to-understand lessons for my students. My goal is to inspire confidence in every learner by providing a supportive environment where we transform overwhelming science topics into clear, manageable successes.

1. Teaching Methods & Techniques
- The Feynman technique where students explain concepts back to me in their own words to prove true understanding.
- Active recall reviewers where I provide custom-written study guides that focus on mechanisms and connections rather than rote vocabulary.
- Low stakes quizzing of frequent and stress-free mini-quizzes train the brain for active retrieval and exam readiness.
- Analogy Based Learning wherein this technique translates complex microscopic processes like cellular respiration into relatable everyday scenarios.

2. Typical Lesson Plan
- We start with a quick 5-minute check-in and review of the previous lesson.
- We spend 20 minutes on core interactive instruction using custom reviewers that focus on the why and how.
- The student takes the reins for 15 minutes and teaches the concept back to me.
- We dedicate 15 minutes to a short targeted quiz and immediate correction of misconceptions.
- The final 5 minutes are spent summarizing the main takeaways and outlining the next session.

3. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
- As a biology undergrad I am actively immersed in the science and remember exactly what it feels like to struggle with these concepts.
- I prioritize building scientific logic over rote learning to ensure high retention that lasts long after the exam is over.
- If a student gets stuck I immediately pivot to a new analogy or visual until the concept clicks.

4. Who the Lessons Are For
- These sessions are specifically tailored for Junior High School and Senior High School students.
- The lessons cover General Biology, Earth Science, Botany, and Microbiology.
- This is for anyone wanting to improve their science grades or master biology for future college tracks.
