About Emily
I am a second year BSc Zoology student at the University of Leeds with extracurricular qualifications in the biological sciences.
As someone with ADHD, I understand how difficult it is to learn a concept and how easy it can be to fall into the trap of cramming a lot of information last minute and then forgetting it straight after.
I spent a lot of money on generic tutors that simply just told me the information and gave me the answers to exam questions with no explanation.
It took me until the end of my first year at university to figure out my learning style and how I could take advantage of the resources available to me. The key is to revise to understand the subject rather than to pass an exam.
This is something I wish my tutors would have told me and so now I want to help other students in my position to reach their highest potential. Education is difficult, but when equipped with the right support and mentality, it can become a lot easier.

My aim is to ensure my students will understand the content and develop their academic skills so they can excel in their education.
If ever I feel like you aren't benefiting from my methods, I will adapt until it suits you.
Throughout, I will focus on active recall and proactive learning strategies instead of simply reading pages of text. Once you are able to confidently explain a concept, we will move on to exam questions.
Between sessions, I will assign academic-style homework for you, building your critical understanding of a topic and allowing you to think outside of the standard exam-board mindset (the tasks that I give you will be dependent on how close we are to the exam deadline as well as your learning style). This will equip you with important critical thinking and scientific presentation/communication skills for higher education whilst building a solid foundation of the core concepts.
I will also provide detailed notes for you, including any exam-board-specific terminology and phrasing, which I can then teach you how to utilise and understand.
