About Penelope
I am a Biomedical Engineering major with a passion for making complex STEM subjects accessible. My academic rigor began early—I started taking college-level coursework as a sophomore in high school, which instilled in me the discipline required to succeed in high-stakes environments.
My subject matter expertise is extensive and interdisciplinary. I have completed six semesters of Chemistry and two semesters of Biology, along with the advanced Mathematics and Physics coursework required for engineering. Because of this background, I am comfortable tutoring across a wide variety of scientific disciplines, helping students connect the dots between concepts rather than just memorizing facts.
My Teaching Philosophy
I have extensive experience as a peer tutor. My approach is grounded in partnership and empathy. Having been a tutee myself, I know how intimidating it can be to say, "I don't understand." I prioritize building a relationship of trust where no question is considered "stupid."
I also specialize in adaptive learning strategies, particularly for students with ADHD. I understand that the standard way of teaching doesn't click for everyone. Whether you need help organizing your thoughts, breaking massive problems into small steps, or finding visual ways to understand abstract concepts, I am comfortable discussing and implementing alternative strategies that fit your specific learning style.
