About Joan
Hello! I'm Joan from Malaysia, and I am currently an incoming final year BA History student studying at King's College London. Many of my friends would say that I am an enthusiastic, pragmatic and organised person who is also patient when it comes to matters relating to teaching and understanding.
Having grown up in Malaysia, I consider Mandarin Chinese to be my second language after English. I spent over a decade since I was 7 being in schools that taught and conversed in the Mandarin Chinese language and hence, have an idea as to what kind of teaching methods are best (I see no point in humiliating and beating students when they make mistakes) and know what constructive feedback is best for the situation at hand.

TECHNIQUES AND METHODOLOGY
It's important to me that students get the most that they can out of tutoring lessons. I first schedule our meetings according to our respective timetables and provide some homework in advance to have students complete them by our next meeting. During the meeting, we will discuss the issues, problems, challenges and difficulties of the homework assigned before then going onto some (guided, if need be) light reading and oral speaking.
LESSONS
30 minutes - 1 hour. Flexible.
STUDENTS
I offer lessons to a variety of students: from those who have no prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, up to Intermediate level students who can identify fundamental words but require help with essay writing.
QUALIFICATIONS
A* in IGCSE Mandarin Chinese.
Trilingualism -- English, Mandarin, Bahasa Melayu (limited)
