1. **Define Characters: ** Explain that characters are the people, animals, or creatures in a story. They can be the main character (the hero) or side characters (friends, family, or even pets).
2. **Discuss Character Traits: ** Describe how characters can have different traits (e.g., brave, funny, kind). These traits help us understand how they might act in different situations.
3. **Use an Example: ** Read a short passage from a familiar story (like "Charlotte's Web"). Identify the main characters (Wilbur, Charlotte) and describe their traits.

**Guided Practice (10 minutes): **
1. **Character Chart Activity: ** Provide students with a simple chart. On one side, they will write the name of a character, and on the other side, they will list at least two traits.
2. **Group Work: ** In pairs, have students discuss their chosen characters from a book they’ve read recently and fill out the chart.

1. **Read a Short Story: ** Give students a short story or a picture book.
