About Sydney
My name is Sydney, and I've always been passionate about spreading my love of learning about art since I was a kid. As a recipient of various scholarships, grants, and awards (including congressional awards) throughout high school and college, I take creation and continuous skill development seriously. Some of my favorite subjects to explore include nature, animals (especially cats!), and people I love. My goal is to grow that same love and passion within you one step at a time, no matter what skill level you're starting from. Next, I look forward to learning about you and working together!

I am a BFA graduate with 10+ years of experience in painting, drawing, and experimenting with media. My lessons are primarily for high school students, but I also teach middle schoolers. My teaching methods introduce and build on foundational art-making skills, building toward a refined sense of personal expression. From realism to experimentalism, and by connecting fine art skills to modern thinking, I will guide you through friendly, low-pressure lessons to refine your skills.
The subject of tutoring sessions varies per student and is adaptable to your needs. A typical lesson plan starts with introductions, an assessment of your expectations, and a guided warm-up to shake off the creative cobwebs and offer a small challenge to get the gears turning. Lessons could cover negative space (accuracy and technical observation), lighting (chiaroscuro and shading), composition, color theory, and how to apply oil paint, graphite, and charcoal. Lessons are supported by studying the qualities of historical art pieces, movements, and ideas throughout the centuries.
