  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in my chosen field during my high school years when I found myself deeply engaged in English, Maths and Social Science. My passion for private tutoring began in college when I started helping my peers and younger students. Seeing their progress and the confidence they gained from our sessions motivated me to pursue tutoring more seriously.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach [IELTS, PTE and School subjects upto year 11], and I particularly enjoy discussing topics like maths and english. These areas offer a blend of challenge and creativity that engage both the students and me. On the other hand, I find calculus a bit less stimulating, but I still strive to make them as interesting.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I had many inspiring teacher in school and college. Their passion for the subject and innovative teaching methods ignited my interest in the field. They had a unique ability to make complex concepts understandable and exciting, which is something I aim to emulate in my tutoring.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs patience, empathy, and strong communication skills. It's crucial to understand each student's unique learning style and tailor the teaching approach accordingly. Additionally, a good tutor should be adaptable, enthusiastic about the subject, and committed to continuous learning to stay updated with the latest educational methods and content.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One memorable moment was when I helped a struggling student prepare for their final exams and also, prepared IELTS someone for Residency visa . They were initially discouraged, but through consistent effort and personalized tutoring sessions, they not only passed but achieved one of the highest grades in the class. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of dedicated support and personalized education.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the ongoing challenges is keeping up with the rapid advancements and changes in NZ curriculum. It requires continuous learning and adaptation. Additionally, explaining complex concepts in a simple and engaging manner can be challenging, but it's a rewarding part of the process when students finally grasp the material.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My primary passion is teaching. I love the process of breaking down complex ideas and seeing the moment of understanding in a student's eyes. While maths and English are my academic passion, I also have a keen interest in [other passion, e.g., music, sports, etc.], which I believe helps me bring a well-rounded perspective to my teaching.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What makes me a Superprof is my dedication to my students' success and my personalized approach to teaching. I continuously strive to make learning enjoyable and effective, tailoring each session to meet the student's needs. My enthusiasm for the subject and commitment to professional development ensure that I provide high-quality education that inspires and empowers my students.
