I am an award-winning, qualified mathematics teacher and subject specialist with a Master's in Mathematics from the University of Warwick, a Mathematics PGCE from the UCL Institute of Education, and a MicroMasters in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy from MIT. Before dedicating myself to full-time private tuition, I taught at Eton College and Cambridge Education Group, and served as a teaching assistant for courses led by Nobel Laureates at MIT.

My teaching approach centres on the idea that many students struggle with mathematics due to gaps in foundational understanding, often overlooked in traditional educational settings. Unfortunately, students don’t always seek guidance as some of these topics are wrongly perceived as 'simple', or teachers might not be sufficiently equipped to explain them thoroughly. I see this issue across all ages and levels of attainment. In mathematics, concepts build upon one another, so at some stage, this lack of understanding catches up with students and forms a barrier to their learning.
To address this, I start by assessing and reinforcing students' foundational understanding. Once this solid base is established, we can scaffold knowledge, delving deeper into complex topics and looking at them in a more thorough and enriching way. Finally, at the top end, the focus shifts to one of deep exploration, challenging problem-solving, and honing exam strategies.
Consistent across all learning journeys is my emphasis on true comprehension over mere memorisation. This approach encourages students to explore the 'why' behind mathematical concepts— the essence of genuine understanding and the spark for a profound appreciation of the subject. Additionally, I ensure students not only grasp mathematical ideas at their core but also excel in expressing this understanding in exams, where my experience as an examiner has proved to be invaluable.
For most of the lesson, students will be solving problems, each problem presenting a different piece of the puzzle, until they reach that “aha” moment where they have mastered the concept. By asking a series of well thought out questions, rather than lecturing, I help students discover for themselves underlying misunderstandings that they may have and address them. With over a decade in education, I've refined my lesson structures to strike a balance between flexibility, which caters to unique student needs, and maintaining a coherent learning arc. My research, experience, diverse interests, and extensive network help me weave narratives around mathematics, catering to individual interests, sparking curiosity and inspiring students to learn more. I place strong emphasis on empowering students to take charge of their learning, with the aim of nurturing independent learners.
Collaboration is key. Working closely with the family, I design a bespoke tutoring plan. Where appropriate, students will have access to an online workbook containing a repository of class notes, assignments, and other materials, ensuring transparency and systematic learning. Perfect! Amazing 11+ Math Tutor
We have interviewed 7 math tutors, all came highly recommended, and at the end decided to go with Amir.
Apart from his obvious knowledge of the subject matter, what Amir was able to offer to us was quite unique and worked extremely well with my son. Instead of working through countless papers and trying to drill subjects to my son's head, Amir introduces a topic and let my son figure it out first based on what he know and the intuition. As a result, the lessons are fun and my son really looks forward to each session. Amir is extremely well structured: the teaching plan is shared ahead of time, the lesson notes are submitted after each lesson with the feedback on the lesson itself and the homework. At the same time Amir adapts well to various learning styles and a pace of learning. He picks up a pace when needed and gives student space when he feels that the workload is a bit much. We have set the bar rather high in terms of school selection for 11+. It was interesting to see Amir's reaction to the choice of school- he almost took it as a personal challenge, something to look forward to, something to work towards to.
He does provide a rather honest feedback to my son, there is no sugarcoating, at the same time he is able to encourage his students to try their best and really don't give up. On few homeworks, my son gave up on questions and wrote "no clue" as answer. Amir told him point blank- there is no such thing as no clue, and you have to at least give it a try.
Overall, I would rate Amir 10 out of 5.

My son is 11 years old. He decided to challenge the almost hardest scholarship for a top public school in 2021. Though he is not the top on Maths. To help him achieve his goal, I was looking for a maths tutor not only has plenty teaching experience and hours, the most important is that he/she has passions in teaching Maths. After carefully selecting from many sources, Amir came to the top on my list. Clearly, he has devoted to be a maths tutor. He teaches students by occurring the root problems which will lead to an effective, enjoyable and long term success. Having helped my brother achieve an A* in UFP maths at CATS College London, Amir came highly recommended. From the first session it was clear why he has such a good reputation. I've had many maths tutors and teachers over the years, Amir's maths knowledge and ability to explain concepts is unmatched. There are some concepts that I have been failing to understand for a long time which Amir has been able to help me understand in a single lesson. Furthermore, his lessons are fun and engaging.

Amir was brought into my school (by the head of maths) as a specialist teacher to help us with the large data set and areas of maths that we as a class were struggling with (moments, proofs, numerical methods and projectiles).
He is the best maths teacher I have come across. He has a really deep understanding of maths. He explained all the areas I could not do from scratch and in a way that I could understand.
He was also very patient and encouraged all of us to ask questions. He is clearly passionate about teaching maths.

Amir helped me resit Business Mathematics at Bellerby College London. His subject knowledge is second to none and his teaching is excellent. He is clearly passionate about maths and teaching and determined to help me get the best grade possible.
I gave him my requirements and exam dates, then he did everything else for me. He structured all the lessons, set me regular homework and made sure I am pushed to best of my ability. All notes and homework's were saved electronically on OneNote for me to view whenever I needed it.

I would highly recommend Amir to anyone looking for a maths tutor in London.Amir is an excellent tutor who has really helped me to fill in gaps in my knowledge and regain my confidence in a number of A-level further maths topics. He explains things really methodically and with great clarity, getting to the root of my concerns/areas of uncertainty very easily and directly. He has built up my relational understanding of the maths concepts, enabling me to know what to do when faced with a problem and why. He is very good at explaining the bigger picture as to what one is trying to achieve mathematically and he explains the rationale behind the methods. He also draws links between different interrelated topics. During the tutor sessions he concentrates on the teaching of the topic without wasting time on example questions that I can be doing in my own time after each tutor session, to consolidate what I have learnt. He uses Microsoft OneNote and Zoom technology really effectively offering excellent online tutoring with resulting electronic notes for each session on OneNote. I could not recommend Amir more highly.

All homework and lesson notes are shared and stored on a mutually accessible OneNote workspace, meaning that I may refer back to the notes when studying for exams or doing homework. This has been very useful when I have been revising ahead of internal exams in my own time before, and I am sure that I have yet to benefit from the system again.
Aside from this, Amir has provided extensive assistance in his own time to assist with editing my personal statement. I have a packed schedule (as I am at a boarding school and have oversubscribed to co-curricular activities), yet despite this, Amir has managed to find time to fit me into his schedule -regardless of whether or not this is on a weekend, during the morning or late into the evening.
I am very glad to have met somebody who goes above and beyond to assist me in achieving what I want to, and if asked whether or not I would choose to work with Amir again, I would most definitely choose to do so. Amir tutored my cousin for maths at GCSE level. Engaging and articulate, I was particularly impressed with his ability to make the subject interesting to a tutee who was usually disinterested in maths. In addition he was able to simplfy complex topics, making it enjoyable and productive at the same time.
Amir is an excellent communicator of mathematical concepts. He inspires - and coupling his empathetic teaching approach with his expert mathematical knowledge, is able to convey abstract and difficult concepts in an innate and natural manner. Amir was great at coaching for further maths - very patient and also very interested in making sure that our child really understood the concepts. He loves the subject and teaches to help exam outcomes but also to inspire a love of learning and of maths - and this comes across during the sessions. As a professional maths teacher / experienced classroom teacher, Amir has both a structured and enthusiastic approach to teaching. Firstly, Amir structured the pre-exam period by thoroughly researching the entrance exams (e.g. school guidelines, past exam papers etc) and developed a tutoring plan for the four month period that focused on building an understanding of the fundamentals and then advancing to the more complex maths problems. Secondly, as a professional maths teacher, it is clear that Amir has a real passion for teaching maths and his enthusiasm for the subject is apparent in his teaching style. This enthusiasm for maths really helped to keep our daughter engaged throughout the four month period and she always enjoyed her sessions with Amir. In writing this reference, I asked our daughter how she would describe Amir’s tutoring and she said ‘he makes maths fun.’
In sum, we believe that Amir’s tutoring not only prepared our daughter for her entrance exams, but also built her maths confidence which will be of enormous value in the coming years. Amir has been tutoring my 10 year old son for the last 5 weeks. As a result of changing schools my son had missed some key maths concepts that were inhibiting his progression in his new curriculum and undermining his confidence in the subject. I have spent lots of time as a student of many tutors over the course of my GCSEs and A(S) levels. None have put as much work ahead of time before the class or shown as much enthusiasm during the sessions as Amir did. I went from struggling to even pass the exam to confidently getting a B, only missing the A by a few marks.
