About Katrina
TL;DR: I'm a graduate student at U of T studying Computational Neuroscience, with an Honour's BSc and First Class Distinction in Physics. I've been a peer tutor in high school and university, and also have extensive experience working with children. My Master's research is conducted entirely in Python, where I employ artificial intelligence (unsupervised learning algorithms) to investigate Alzheimer's Disease.
Hi there! I'm Katrina, a U of T graduate student with an Honour's BSc in Physics. I know finding the right tutor is crucial for your learning experience, so I want to show you why I'm a great fit.
First things first, I have a strong academic track record, graduating from my Honours Physics degree with a First Class Distinction at York University. I also graduated with the highest academic average out of every student at my high school. Physics and Python has always been passions of mine, and I can't wait to share my knowledge and skills with you in a way that's fun and engaging.
I've been a peer tutor during high school and university, which taught me a lot about how to connect with students like you. I'll adapt to your learning style and make sure our sessions are effective and enjoyable. Throughout my own journey, I've also struggled and overcome challenging classes, so I understand the feelings of stress, anxiety, and frustration that can come from school. I'm here to help you succeed!
I'm currently pursuing a Master's degree in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, specifically in the field of Computational Neuroscience. I use Python constantly in my research, where I employ unsupervised learning artificial intelligence to investigate Alzheimer's Disease. It's fascinating to see how physics and computing play a role in healthcare, and I'll bring that real-world perspective to our lessons. Let's make learning practical and exciting!

As a tutor, my approach is centered around actively engaging with students and fostering a collaborative learning environment. I believe in tailoring my teaching methodology and techniques to suit the unique needs and learning styles of each individual student. By understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and goals, I can provide effective guidance and support.
In terms of teaching methodology, I emphasize a problem-solving approach. I encourage students to actively participate in the learning process by working through problems and exercises, as this helps solidify their understanding of concepts and builds their problem-solving skills. I provide explanations and demonstrations when needed, but I also encourage students to think critically and independently. I have a knack for breaking down complex concepts and making them easily understandable.
A typical lesson plan with me involves an initial assessment of the student's knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. This helps me identify any knowledge gaps and areas that require more attention. Based on this assessment, I design a lesson plan that focuses on addressing those gaps and reinforcing key concepts. During the lesson, I explain and demonstrate relevant topics, discuss examples, and work through practice problems with the student. I also encourage active participation and questions to ensure a comprehensive understanding.

Being a Physics Honours graduate who is currently a Master's Student studying computational neuroscience, I possess a strong foundation in both scientific and computational principles.
