Nick was my Civil Engineering tutor for 3 years at Nottingham Trent University. He was knowledgable, engaging and passionate which made learning easy and seminars/lectures enjoyable.

Nick was one of my lecturers on my Civil Engineering degree. He was extremely knowledgeable on the industry and was always approachable and friendly to help me with any topics I found challenging. I was taught by Nick during my Civil Engineering degree at Nottingham Trent University and have fond memories of his lessons. Nick taught my year from when he started at NTU to 2015 when I graduated. My year all agreed that Nick was one of our favourite lecturers not only due to his warm and patient personality but also for his real life knowledge of the construction industry. I studied Civil Engineering at NTU from 2018 to 2021, and I found Nick to be the most engaging lecturer I encountered during my studies. He taught the Civil Engineering Design Projects module, and his enthusiasm and passion for both civil engineering and the subject matter were evident. His energy in the classroom was lively and motivating, which helped me stay eager to learn despite the difficulties I faced in understanding some concepts.

I recall giving presentations during my first year as part of this module. Nick had a unique way of encouraging students to question their own work in a constructive manner, prompting us to reflect on whether our ideas and statements were accurate. This approach inspired me to improve my work and develop my critical thinking skills.

What made Nick particularly memorable was the personal example he shared about his own career—specifically, that he was one of the engineers who worked on the DLR at Canning Town station in Newham, the area where I grew up. Hearing about his background and professional experiences motivated me to aspire to become the kind of engineer he is: one who works with both enthusiasm and passion.

Without Nick I would have really struggled in my BSc Civil Engineering at NTU!
