When teaching Chemistry, whether face-to-face or online, I believe that it should be enjoyable, and I'm committed to making my classes as enjoyable and interactive as possible. I create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages my students to participate, ask questions, and engage with the material. As per the students' needs, I provide both one-on-one or group tutoring at an affordable rate. I use the following techniques to ensure students grasp complex concepts effectively: 1) Interactive Demonstrations: I conduct live experiments to illustrate key concepts, making abstract ideas more tangible. 2) Hands-on Practice: Students engage in laboratory work, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. 3) Socratic Questioning: I ask guided questions to stimulate critical thinking and deepen understanding. 4) Incorporate Visual Aids & Models: I use various charts, diagrams, and molecular models like ball and stick models to explain complex concepts like bonding. 5) Interactive sessions: I use questioning, discussions, and quizzes to keep students engaged. I utilize whiteboards for real-time problem-solving and explanations. 6) Complete WhatsApp/Messenger group support throughout the year.7) One-on-One Feedback: Regular assessments and personalized feedback help track progress and address individual challenges.

  • 1. When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in chemistry began during my school years when I became fascinated by how chemical reactions explain everyday phenomena—from medicines to environmental processes. This curiosity led me to pursue higher studies in chemistry and later a professional career in forensic laboratories, where I applied chemistry to real-life investigations.
My interest in private tutoring developed when I started helping students who found chemistry difficult. I realised that many students struggle not because the subject is too hard, but because it is not always explained clearly. Seeing students gain confidence and start enjoying chemistry motivated me to pursue tutoring seriously.
  • 2. Tell us more about the subject you teach.

I teach chemistry to senior secondary students, particularly SACE Stage 2 chemistry, helping them build strong conceptual understanding and exam confidence.
I enjoy discussing topics such as chemical equilibrium, organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and analytical techniques because they connect directly with real-world applications in medicine, environmental science, and forensic investigations.
Some students initially find areas like thermodynamics or equilibrium calculations challenging, but these are actually some of my favourite topics to teach because once students understand the logic behind them, the concepts become surprisingly simple.
  • 3. Did you have any role models?

Yes, I was fortunate to have teachers who inspired curiosity rather than rote learning. One of my chemistry teachers had an exceptional ability to simplify complex concepts and encourage students to ask questions.
That experience shaped my teaching philosophy: science should inspire curiosity and confidence rather than fear
  • 4. What qualities are required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs patience, strong communication skills, and genuine care for students’ learning.
    Some key qualities include:
    • Clear and simple explanations
    • Patience and empathy
    • Adaptability to different learning styles
    • Encouraging curiosity and critical thinking
    • Building student confidence
A tutor’s role is not only to teach content but to help students believe in their ability to learn.
  • 5. Provide an anecdote related to your subject.

During my work in forensic chemistry, I witnessed how even a tiny trace of a chemical substance could provide critical evidence in an investigation. That moment reminded me that chemistry is not just theory—it has real-world importance and can even help deliver justice.
Sharing such real-life examples with students often sparks their interest and helps them see the relevance of chemistry beyond the classroom.
  • 6. What challenges have you faced in your subject?

One of the main challenges in chemistry is that it combines conceptual understanding with mathematical problem-solving. Students often feel overwhelmed when they encounter both together.
Another challenge is the common perception that chemistry is difficult. My goal as a tutor is to break that barrier by explaining concepts step by step and showing students that chemistry is actually very logical and fascinating.
  • 7. Do you have a particular passion?

My passion is both chemistry and teaching. I love helping students understand difficult concepts and seeing their confidence grow.
Beyond academics, I also value activities like yoga and mindfulness, which help maintain focus and balance in life. I believe a calm and focused mind is essential for effective learning.
  • 8. What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is the combination of strong academic knowledge, real laboratory experience, and a genuine passion for teaching.
With more than a decade of experience in chemical analysis and several years of tutoring senior secondary chemistry, I bring practical insight and clear teaching methods to my lessons.
