About Mason
Hi, I'm Mason, a third-year Law student with a 96 ATAR and a genuine passion for helping younger students build the skills and confidence that got me there.
I attended Ballarat Clarendon College (VIC) before finishing my senior schooling at The Southport School (QLD). That move gave me first-hand experience across two different state curricula, so I understand how the same subject can be taught differently depending on where a student goes to school, and I can adapt to whichever syllabus they're working through — VCE, QCE, or otherwise.
Teaching runs in the family: both my parents are qualified teachers who have tutored privately for years, and I grew up watching and helping them work one-on-one with students, before I expanded into my own tutoring practices. It's given me a strong sense of what actually works in a tutoring session: patience, clear explanations, and making sure a student leaves understanding why something works, not just how to get the answer.
I was a high achiever in General Math, General English, Extension English and Literature, Modern History and Biology.
As such, I tutor General Mathematics, English (including extension-level essay and analytical writing), Modern History, and Biology, and I specialize in Years 7–10; however, I am open to students of any grade or level. This is the stage where I think the real difference gets made. It's when students either build genuine confidence in a subject or start telling themselves they're "just not good at it." My goal in every session is the former: helping students develop solid study habits, exam technique, and self-belief that carries through to senior school and beyond.
I'm currently studying Law, so I bring strong analytical and written communication skills to every subject I teach, particularly English and History, where structuring a clear argument is everything.
Available for online sessions after school and on weekends, flexible around your family's schedule.

My sessions run for one hour, which is enough time to properly work through a topic without a student losing focus.
I start most sessions by testing what's already landed from class through interactive questioning (quick, low-pressure questions that show me exactly where the gaps are before we spend time on anything else). From there, I work through worked examples together with the student rather than just explaining a concept and moving on. I find that students build a much stronger foundation when they see a problem solved step-by-step and then attempt a similar one themselves, than when they're simply told the answer or the rule.
As we go, I focus on building three things: the underlying concept (so the student actually understands why a method works, not just how to reproduce it), exam technique (how to read a question properly, structure a response, and avoid the mistakes that cost easy marks), and study preparation habits they can take away and use independently. These include how to revise effectively, manage their time before assessments, and identify their own weak spots without needing a tutor in the room.
I tailor the pace and difficulty to each individual student. Some need more repetition to build confidence, others are ready to be pushed with harder, exam-style questions early on. My own experience going through two different senior curricula (VCE and QCE) and finishing with a 96 ATAR gives me a good sense of what actually gets rewarded in assessments, on top of the teaching habits I've picked up growing up around two tutor-teacher parents.
