About Francesco
I'm an Associate Professor of Italian Studies. I've spent years researching how Italian identity travels, changes, and gets reinvented in Italy and beyond.
What this means for you: I love conversations that go beyond textbook Italian, into the culture, politics, and social fabric that shape how Italians actually think and live — at home and around the world. Whether you're curious about regional identities, food, migration and diaspora, Italian cinema and literature, football as a cultural phenomenon, or how Italy sits within broader conversations about race, colonialism, and belonging, I'm happy to explore it with you in Italian.
Every week, I will provide in advance some interesting material to read or watch, and we will then discuss it together. Depending on your preferences, I can adjust the content and structure of our conversations, and provide supporting material.
I'm not a language-drilling tutor — think of our conversations as a chance to practice Italian while genuinely digging into ideas: history, current events, identity, and the messier, more human side of Italian society that doesn't always make it into a phrasebook.
