About Sergio
I believe in learning to understand, not just to memorize. And I think that practice makes perfect. I believe that if you truly understand a topic, then no test question in the world can trick you. But if you memorize a basic definition or a few examples of a concept without really understanding the underlying process, then it's easy to be fooled by anything. And I think practicing with questions is one of the easiest ways to apply your knowledge and test your understanding of the topic. I myself love to learn for deep understanding. I've had the most success with myself and with others when approaching learning with the intent to understand instead of just doing well in a class or memorizing something for a test. I want to help others succeed academically, and I want even more to help others improve their relationship with learning. I want to help you learn how to learn.

My lessons are personalized to the student. During our first interaction, I will do my best to learn about you - the topic you need help with, how fast you need that help, and why you believe you need that help. And I will also ask a little bit about your interests, your strengths, what you don't like, and what you feel you're not great at, because I believe these aspects tell a significant story about how a person learns, and their relationship to learning new and challenging material. Once I understand that, I can design a plan around you. My usual plans involve introducing, discussing, and applying topics in a more casual format than the typical approach in traditional schooling. Of course, there will still be some of the traditional elements, like doing practice problems or writing papers, but I intend to ensure all aspects are still tailored to the individual. This tailoring itself means that whether you need an even stricter version of how schools traditionally teach students, or if you need a completely alternative method, I will do my best to find and use what works best for you.
