About Kai Lun
Kai Lun Qu is an artist and educator currently creating oil paintings for Marvel and contributing to the award-winning game Marvel Snap.
He has served on the faculty of the Portrait Society of America Conference and has been a judge for many international art competitions and magazines, most notably the Almenara Art Prize in Spain. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States.
In 2018, Kai was featured in Southwest Art Magazine’s “21 Under 31” article, where he was recognized as one of 21 artists under the age of 31 celebrated as rising art stars from across the West and around the country.
In addition to creating his own work, he believes in sharing his knowledge with those who seek proper guidance and education. Kai began teaching professionally at the age of 17, establishing his own atelier and successfully teaching over 100 students to attain professional-level classical drawing skills within one year by the age of 22.
Now at 30, after a period of contributing paintings for Marvel, DC, Sony, and others, he is focusing once again on teaching and sharing his accumulated experience with those who want the “cheat codes” to leveling up their art skills.

I do not believe in talent. I believe anyone can attain high skill, and I can take you there just like I’ve taken the hundreds of students I’ve taught before.
First of all, I do not teach art, nor do I believe art is something that can be taught. Art is self-expression, and I cannot teach you how to express yourself. I can, however, teach you how to hone and use the tools needed to express yourself through technical training in drawing and painting.
My methodology is simple and requires no prior experience. In fact, the less you know, the better. We start by assessing your goals, and I will craft a personalized lesson plan specifically with those goals in mind.
I specialize in teaching representational realism in drawing and painting, but through my instruction, you will learn the universal foundations needed for a wide range of disciplines such as illustration and animation.
Whether you are a beginner who feels lost and unsure where to start, an intermediate student who is unsatisfied with your current skill level and education, or a working professional who wants to take your work from professional to master level, I believe I am the right fit for you and can take you where you want to go.
