About Hana
I have been teaching and working in International schools for over 7 years now and have taught in India, China, Wales and Norway. I have taught students of all ages, ranging from Primary level to 12th graders, I have taught the IB and A level Art and helped senior students prepare their Art portfolios and exams for university entry.
Coming from a very Artistic family, I have been surrounded by Art my whole life and from a very young age, may it be Painting, Sculpture, Music, and Poetry.
I have a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts of Beijing, China. Although I specialised in my 4th year in Mural painting, the first three years of University were spent exploring different mediums and techniques such as Chinese Calligraphy, Acrylic and Oil painting, Watercolor painting, Drawing, Sculpture (3D and Relief), and Printmaking.
I have just recently moved to Edinburgh from Norway, where I worked as a full time HOD and IB Visual Art teacher at UWC Red Cross Nordic for 2 years, in order to continue my professional development in Counselling studies at the University of Edinburgh.

I believe Art to be a tool for self expression and I believe that everyone can create if the environment is right (encouragement and belief in them) and if they are given the tools (techniques and hands on practice) to enable this visual expression.
Art theory and concepts are important in your journey towards self expression and creation, however what is needed above all, especially at the beginning, is learning and understanding techniques and methods, exploring the medium, its limitations and capacities, its personality and character in a practical and fun manner, using exercises, warm ups, practice and so on. What is key when first being introduced to a new medium, is to feel that you have the space to fail and try again, and through this gain confidence, understand it better, to learn to master it, which will then lead you or enable you to express yourself through it, with curiosity, pleasure and eagerness.
This has been the methodology I have been using with my students. If you wish to see some of my students work and progress, as well as demo pieces and exercises I have done with them, please do no hesitate to write to me.
Teaching and Art are two of my passions and more importantly a vocation, and there is nothing more I love than to share all the knowledge I have with my students.
