About Issy
I trained in Architectural History at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where I received an MA Distinction and wrote my dissertation on architecture, ecology and environmental sensing around disaster sites. Before that, I studied History of Art at the University of Leeds, graduating with a First Class BA (Hons). My academic background is strongly interdisciplinary, often working across architecture, art history, landscape, environmental humanities, museum studies and critical theory.
Alongside my academic work, I have professional experience in the museum sector, where I have worked on exhibitions, public programmes, interpretation, community consultation, and public realm projects.
As a tutor, I’m particularly good at helping students who have rich or unusual interests but are not yet sure how to shape them into an essay, dissertation, application or research question. I enjoy working through ideas in a conversational way - finding the thread, asking the right questions, connecting references, and helping students build confidence in their own critical voice.
I’m supportive, thoughtful and intellectually curious, and I know how intimidating academic writing can feel when you are still working out what you want to say. My aim is to make architectural history, art history and theory feel more open, usable and exciting, without sacrificing theoretical depth.

I am an architectural historian with an MA Distinction in Architectural History from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, and a First Class BA (Hons) in History of Art from the University of Leeds.
I offer friendly, research-led tutoring for students interested in architectural history, art history, landscape, gardens, public space, museums, environmental humanities, and spatial culture more broadly.
I can support students with essay planning, dissertation development, research questions, close reading, academic writing, personal statements, and MA applications. My approach is especially useful for students who have interesting ideas but need guidance in turning them into clear arguments, structures, or pieces of academic writing.
I do not write essays for students, but I can help you understand and articulate what your perspective is, find relevant references, organise your material, improve your critical vocabulary, and gain confidence in your own voice. I am particularly interested in helping students connect personal interests, visual material, buildings, landscapes, cities, archives, and cultural history into thoughtful and original work.
