About Sara

Hello and welcome. My name is Sara, and I am a physician, medical consultant, and passionate educator with over ten years of private tutoring experience. Throughout my academic and medical career, I have had the privilege of helping students of all ages unlock their potential, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals. Whether your child is working to master foundational math in elementary school, navigating high school sciences, or preparing for high-stakes programs like IB Biology, my goal is to make learning an engaging, empowering, and stress-free experience.

Having completed my Doctor of Medicine degree and worked extensively in healthcare and clinical mentorship, I bring a unique perspective to education. I understand firsthand how overwhelming complex subjects can feel, but I also know that with the right guidance, structure, and encouragement, any student can thrive. My approach is rooted in patience, active listening, and clear communication. I take the time to understand how each student learns best, breaking down challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps while teaching practical study habits and time management skills that last a lifetime.

When you work with me, you can expect a dedicated, highly organized, and reliable partner in your child's education. I create a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, learn from their mistakes, and build genuine pride in their progress. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting your family on this academic journey.

My teaching philosophy revolves around simplification, conceptual understanding, and active recall. Having navigated the rigorous demands of medical school, I know that rote memorization only gets a student so far—true academic mastery comes from understanding why a concept works.

The "Feynman Technique" for STEM: I guide students to explain complex biological systems or mathematical steps back to me in plain language. If they can explain it simply, they truly understand it.

Scaffolded Learning: For math and general science, I break complex multi-step problems into digestible, manageable building blocks so students build confidence without feeling overwhelmed.

Executive Functioning & Study Skills: Alongside subject matter, I integrate time management, structured note-taking, and active recall techniques (such as spaced repetition and active testing) so students learn how to study independently.

2. A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)
Every session is structured to maximize engagement while minimizing student fatigue:

First 5–10 Minutes | Retrieval Practice & Check-In: We review 2–3 quick questions from the previous lesson to reinforce long-term memory and address any homework struggles.

Next 25–30 Minutes | Core Concept Instruction: We tackle the primary topic (e.g., cell respiration, quadratic equations, or essay structuring) using interactive visual diagrams, whiteboards, and step-by-step worked examples.

Next 15 Minutes | Guided Practice: The student solves tailored problems or explains concepts independently while I provide real-time, encouraging feedback.

Final 5 Minutes | Key Takeaways & Action Plan: We summarize what was learned, set clear next steps for their independent schoolwork, and outline what we will cover in the next session.

3. What Sets You Apart as a Tutor
Physician Perspective & Deep Subject Mastery: Holding a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree means I don't just know the curriculum—I have applied advanced science and analytical problem-solving at the highest professional level.

10+ Years of Proven Mentorship: Over a decade of private tutoring experience across elementary, high school, and university levels allows me to adapt quickly to different learning styles, attention spans, and academic goals.

High-Stakes & IB Specialization: Having taught IB Math and Biology and advanced pre-med coursework, I know exactly what top-tier evaluation standards look like and how to prepare students for competitive academic tracks.

Patient & Encouraging Environment: My background in clinical medicine translates directly into patience, active listening, and a supportive environment where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes.

4. Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are tailored for a wide range of academic levels and goals:

Elementary Students (Grades 1–8): Building core confidence in foundational Mathematics, General Science, and English reading/writing skills.

High School Students (Grades 9–10): Comprehensive support for Grade 9–10 Math.

Specialized & Enriched Tracks: Mathematics, AP Science, and standardized exam preparation.

Students Seeking Executive Functioning Coaching: Students who struggle with organization, test anxiety, time management, or keeping up with high school workload.
