About Xin
Oxford University graduate, BA History (high 2.i). Before that, 4 A*s at A-level and 11 A*s at GCSE from my local state school.
I am a City-qualified lawyer and media professional with a variety of experience from work placements during university at London law firms, national newspapers, the BBC, and the UK Civil Service.
Highlights of my long track record for my tutees include achieving three 9’s at GCSE for a student in English and History, as well as a full house of offers for sociology and physics UCAS applications.
My personal interests are wide. At school, I considered going into medicine - my A-levels were in Maths, Chemistry, History and English Literature. I am sympathetic to students facing big decisions at 11, 14, 16 and 18 - I remember how crucial those choices felt, and how important it was to ace those 11+, GCSE and A-level exams. Good, personally-dedicated teaching built my confidence for success; I hope I can, in turn, help you build yours.

I tutor History and English at GCSE and A level.
I also provide tailored support with the university application process, with particular strength in drafting UCAS personal statements for all subjects.
Lessons are very much focused on closely following course specification content and exam technique. Within those strict parameters, nonetheless, I try to take a more engaging approach, using a wider variety of resources - and resources more interesting and suited to the specific student - than might be possible or available during school hours.
I also provide regular updates on progress to parent(s) or guardian(s).

Perfect! Best tutor
I hugely recommend this tutor for anyone studying history. Within two months, he helped me raise my grade from a U to an A, in my school examinations. His lessons are equally interesting and fun as they are productive and thought provoking. Simply the best history tutor that you could find!

“Xin tutored me for my History Pre-U exams. He came to every single lesson completely prepared with notes and past paper questions for the topics we were going to cover. Some of our lessons were very long and Xin made them incredibly engaging and so easy to stay focused throughout. He made time during the lessons to go through essay writing techniques, review corrections on work he had set and, most importantly, explained everything in a really comprehensible way. Xin was very generous with his time and resources and always found ways to make History fun. He has a genuine passion for this subject and continues to show a great level of support and interest in my progress as a History student. I feel so much more prepared for my summer exams and am very grateful for Xin’s help and all the extra resources he has given me to study when I get back at school!”

Xin was a fantastic tutor who guided me through both my GCSEs and A-Levels. Thanks to his support, I achieved excellent grades—surpassing my flight paths—and went on to excel in History, Philosophy, and Sociology at A-Level. This gave me the foundation to pursue Law with International Relations at a prestigious university.
