About Katy
I have tutored a variety of subjects over the years. I began part time in 2004 as a college algebra tutor for a couple non-traditional college algebra students going back to school to finish their degree years later.
I began tutoring full time in 2013 and helped high school students with Dyslexia in their classes they had any reading and writing. I then just started helping high school students with students habits and all their classes. A variety of students with different reasons to seek help. I also would help them with test prep for the ACT and SAT tests. I fell into this and it had become the most tutored of all. I enjoy it very much.
I've also guided many seniors in high school with their college applications and with making these life altering decisions. I am a social worker so I fit the role of mentor easily.
I also have experience with ESL and have helped a variety of newcomers to America learn English by teaching phonetic sounds conversational English.

I use a student focused methodology when working with any student in any subject. This means that I learn from the individual how to best teach them based on their own unique way of understanding information or learning things!
I do this in a variety of ways that include asking students what they think of different approaches to a subject, looking at past test results of IEPs they may have, asking a parent or someone with interest in their academic life what they notice, and just by getting to know the student.
I also have discovered that the highest math scores in the world come from China. I use their methodology with tutoring certain math concepts that help a student learn what they are doing as opposed to remembering for a test.
It's vital to the student's future math classes that they learn what they are taking before it. Math is something that can't be understood without knowing all that came before your current math class. This is why it is so important to learn and not memorize for a test
