About Patrick
I have more than 15 years of experience in the finance world, and much of the responsibility of my roles has been to educate colleagues on the knowledge and concepts they'll need to master in order to excel in the financial services industry. My primary focus is on securities industry knowledge & compliance, as this business is one with more than enough red tape to go around. Throughout the years, I've established numerous long-lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike with my relaxed, easy-going nature, my ability to help them understand the sometimes overly-complicated concepts & processes of our industry, and my overall striving to see those around me succeed, which is truly where I get the most satisfaction.

My approach to tutoring is to first meet with a student and assess their current knowledge of the concepts/topics at hand, gauge their overall comfort level and let them tell me, in their own words, what they believe they do best/worst, and if there's any area they think would be best to focus on. This step is also intended to interact & familiarize myself with the student & their personality, as well as to "disarm" the student, if necessary, from any negative preconceived notions they may have about the need for tutoring and how they feel the engagement will progress.
Once I have a grasp of what topics to focus on, my preference is to review the study materials the student has to summarize/break down the concepts into smaller, bite-sized pieces. One thing I personally struggle with is when I'm trying to read for comprehension/knowledge, I get stuck focusing on the "fluff" included in the text, rather than the "meat & potatoes" of the lesson. My aim is to eliminate the need for a student to do that. This, in my experience, improves both the amount of knowledge a student grasps and the overall efficiency of the time spent together learning. Once concepts are reviewed together, sample questions/quizzes can be provided through either the student's materials, materials that I've provided and brought with me, or a combination of both.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to hone in on the individual needs of a student and help them understand how they do their best learning. I do well creating a comfortable environment in which to work/study, and again, I strive to break down any topics of struggling into their most basic parts to help a student understand them. I've helped several professionals in my industry study and pass licensing exams in the past, even when they'd failed several times before we worked together, and I've also worked with college students on occasion to help them understand/pass courses.
The areas I focus on for my tutoring are math and algebra for high school and lower college levels. I can also help with high school and lower college level accounting, finance, & economics.
