About Ankrita
I teach classical and modern piano, keyboard and vocals. I grew up learning music from the age of 5. I was always lucky to have people in my family that were big proponents of the arts and enjoyed music as a hobby until I was a teen. That's the age I started to take it really seriously (and I'm glad I stuck with it till then!) and wanted to study it at university. A lot of my learning after getting to an intermediate level with my teacher was self-taught and I was fortunate to eventually study with Fali Pavri at the RCS for 4 years. There, I realized I loved arranging music (pop, jazz and orchestral pieces) for piano. I also learned how much went into developing a good technique, and how important it is to have this instruction in the early stages of a student's journey. I sang in my college choir, worked with singers, in chamber orchestras and simply fell in love with music as a tool for bringing community together. This led me to teaching in multicultural schools, where I learned a lot more about music in other traditions. It's still on my bucket list to arrange a few Indian classical pieces and folk songs. After conservatoire I spent a few years training to be a lawyer, and work in both the legal and music industries today.

My Approach to Teaching Music: I take a well-rounded approach to teaching singing and music, believing that understanding the theory and the 'why' behind compositional techniques and music-making is just as important as mastering individual pieces and your technique. This approach not only helps students engage more deeply with the music but also enhances their overall musicianship. In my lessons, I integrate: Music Theory: Exploring the fundamental concepts behind composition and music Ear Training: Developing the ability to listen and identify musical elements, a crucial skill for all Music History: Understanding the context and evolution of music to enrich the learning experience. My Qualifications & Experience As a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), an ABRSM conservatoire in the UK, I have in-depth knowledge and experience in improving technique, musicality, and performance. I have worked with students of various levels, helping them refine their skills and achieve their musical goals. Masterclasses and Exam Preparation In addition to regular lessons, I also offer one-off masterclasses for students who are preparing for exams, performances, or specific masterclasses. These sessions are ideal for those who have a ready program of music and want to refine their skills for an upcoming event or exam. Who I Teach I am open to teaching students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. Whether you’re looking to improve your technique, learn new pieces, or deepen your understanding of music theory, my lessons are tailored to your individual needs and goals.
*All lessons will either be at my location or online. No home visits unless location is specified time and transport are covered.
