About Maeve
I grew up bilingual in English and Russian although my only native language is English, so I am a keen linguist and carry lessons I took from learning a foreign language into my teaching techniques for French.
I am from Cambridge, but have spent months or weeks at a time in France from a young age and am currently living in Lyon as part of the third year of my undergraduate degree in French and Russian at the University of Bristol.
I love languages and their complexity, and I am always excited to assist with the improvement of grammar skills, self-expression both orally and through writing, listening abilities and reading competence.
I use a range of resources and methods to create an environment where students grow confident to speak and understand French, in a way that removes the pressure to speak perfectly and champions communication and understanding. My students are always keen to ask questions and express difficulty when necessary, so we can work together to build their capabilities and perform well in exams.

I teach hour-long lessons focusing on improving fluency and accuracy in French speaking, listening, reading and writing. I teach years 7-11 for GCSE and L6 and U6 for A level, and am able to personally tailor my lessons to students' age, capability and desired points of focus. I am able to be flexible with students' schedules when organising lesson times and respond in under 24 hours when contacted.
I have two years' experience tutoring for French in person and online, both as an employee of tutoring agencies and on an independent basis. I am a native English speaker and also a fluent Russian speaker, having lived there as a child. My French is currently C1 level and I complete my degree in French at the University of Bristol in 2025.
I conduct my lessons in a mixture of French and English, leaning as heavily as possible towards the French so as to offer a more immersive lesson and increase students' passive vocabulary and confidence responding in French.
Resources I favour include: GCSE and A Level past papers and formal preparatory exercises, news articles and interviews, blog posts, clips from films and television series and more!
I love tutoring and sharing my enjoyment of this language and I look forward to creating a tutoring environment that works best for you.
