About Finn
Hi there! My name is Finn and I'm a 3rd year engineering and computer science student at Curtin University with three years of tutoring experience. STEM subjects are my passion and I'm just as eager to learn new things as I am to pass them on to my students! I graduated high school in 2022 and remember the struggles associated with undertaking a WACE course. The stress of impending exams, uncertainty about the future, and struggling to make the broad strokes approach taught in school apply to my own learning. While the first two points are more or less inevitable, I strive to address the third point in my teaching by giving to my students what I wish I'd had when I was in their shoes. I put a focus on the benefits that individual tutoring has over traditional teaching methods; lessons are student-led, with time spent working on what the student recognizes as gaps in their knowledge. Using my recent experience as a student and my almost 3 years of private tutoring experience, I break down topics into more understandable steps. Generally, I work with students either currently enrolled in WACE ATAR courses (methods, specialists, physics) or with students who have aspirations to eventually study these courses. I don't differentiate between higher/lower achieving students, as I believe that success is achievable regardless and ultimately dependent on the student's aspirations. I recommend 45-minute to 1-hour lessons weekly or fortnightly, however this can be adapted to the needs of the student.
