About Jasmine
I’m a third-year Civil Engineering student at UW with a strong passion for helping younger students succeed in math and physics. My engineering coursework- including subjects like dynamics, mechanics, and advanced calculus has given me a deep, practical understanding of the concepts students learn through school. I’ve worked with over 50 students, many of whom achieved 20%+ increases in their grades, and I take pride in seeing those breakthroughs happen. Having gone through IB in high school and several years of rigorous engineering classes, I understand exactly what students need to build strong foundations instead of surface-level memorization. I’m patient, supportive, and extremely excited to help students build confidence and real understanding, not just memorize steps. My goal is to make learning approachable, empowering, and even enjoyable while helping students prepare for future success.

My Approach
I believe the best way to learn math and physics is by doing. My sessions are built around active problem-solving, where I guide students step-by-step and help them understand the “why” behind every concept, not just memorize formulas. I take a gentle, supportive approach: instead of giving answers outright, I help students discover their own mistakes and build confidence through understanding.
Typical Lesson Structure
Each lesson is customized to support the student’s current schoolwork. A typical session includes:
1) Reviewing class material: We look at the student’s notes, assignments, and upcoming topics to understand what they’re expected to learn.
2) Checking for true understanding: I ask the student to explain concepts in their own words so I can see exactly where things click and where they don’t.
3) Guided practice: We work through problems together, focusing on reasoning rather than memorization.
4) Independent problem-solving: The student tries problems on their own; afterward, we go through mistakes together and clarify misunderstandings.
5) Reinforcement loop: We repeat the process with new examples until the student feels confident and prepared
What Sets Me Apart
As a third-year engineering student, I’ve gone through the same math and physics journey that my students are navigating now, so I know exactly which concepts tend to be confusing and what actually helps them click. I don’t simply point out mistakes; I teach students how to recognize and correct them on their own, building long-term confidence, independence and skills that will carry onto future classes.
My priority is always clear, conceptual understanding supported by consistent practice. This method has helped many of my past students achieve significant improvements in confidence, problem-solving skill, and overall academic performance.
