About Kathryn
My name is Katy Hughes, and I have spent 19 years studying the Spanish language. After completing four years of high school honors Spanish, I majored in Spanish Language and Literature at the university level, where I served as a Spanish Teaching Assistant for two years. While in college, I had the privilege of studying in Málaga, Spain; Cuenca, Ecuador; and Mendoza, Argentina. I eventually moved to Granada, Spain, to complete postgraduate research. After returning to the United States, I received my Master’s degree in Spanish Translation and Interpretation. I currently work as an interpreter in the medical, legal, educational, and community fields. I am passionate about helping students of all levels improve their Spanish and make the language approachable, practical, and enjoyable.

I strive to make grammatical concepts and vocabulary approachable and easy to learn by relating them to their English equivalents. My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, so a typical lesson plan depends on their goals, whether that’s improving conversation skills, preparing for exams, or mastering specific grammatical structures.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my 19 years of experience studying and perfecting my Spanish, as well as my familiarity with a variety of dialects, allowing me to provide a well-rounded and authentic learning experience. I offer lessons for students pursuing high school diplomas and college degrees, from beginner to advanced levels, ensuring that each session is both effective and engaging.
