About Brenda
I have loved math since I began elementary school - my father was a math teacher. In high school, I learned computer programming and then studied math, software engineering, and teaching in college. After a career as a software developer, I returned to my original love for teaching, and have taught both in classrooms and online for over 20 years. I obtained a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2015. I have had some online tutoring students for over three years.

I help my students build their confidence in math by helping them improve their basic math skills, teaching them steps, showing them shortcuts, and helping them overcome their fears by discovering what they already know, filling in gaps, and providing a lot of encouragement. I constantly ask them questions and get them to apply what they already know or have recently learned rather than just giving them answers.
I can help students with current classroom learning or take them through learning and practicing new or old topics. I generally encourage the development of mental math skills rather than reliance on a calculator and show my students that this is a quicker option. I use many visual tools to assist with the understanding of new concepts.
I teach all levels of elementary and middle school math as well as Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry.
